How does the PH-1000 compare to reverse osmosis?

Please see our comparison chart for more information. A few quick answers: PH-1000 is a powerful and simple design that doesn’t need drainage, electricity, doesn’t have waste water, doesn’t need a storage tank or pump, and doesn’t need remineralization. This saves money on water and electricity and is great for places where drainage and power are unavailable and for places where power outages occur frequently.

Do I need a bypass line for a whole house system?

We recommend a certified plumber installs your filter. A bypass line allows for running water while changing out filters for replacement. For this reason most people install bypass lines if the unit does not have one built in. Please see our supporting documentation for bypass installation configuration.

Also, a bypass line would be a good way to “bypass” the filter when filling a pool or watering a lawn if you didn’t want to use filtered water.

Can the PH-1000 be mounted on the wall instead of sitting on the floor?

Although buyers get creative when installing and/or mounting, we recommend a certified plumber installs this unit per the installation guide, which instructs that the unit should sit on the floor. Highbrow Water Filters is not liable for any negative impact resulting from installations which do not follow the instructions.

How do I mount the ProPur Pre-Sediment Filter and Sub-Micron Filter?

The piping from the whole house system to the pre and post filters should be in a straight line. That will require a “jog” on the mounting surface (e.g. the pre and post filters are smaller therefor the mounting bracket won’t reach as far as the whole house bracket and you will need something to make up that difference in distance.)

How does the quick fittings connect and disconnect? Does it come with a disconnect tool?

The plumber will know how to install and uninstall these fittings. Right now, the filters do not come with the quick disconnect tool. They are available at your local hardware store. See this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIXEgr_HSjo for a full description on how press fittings work.

What types of water pollutants/contaminants are there?

It’s region and municipality specific. We recommend calling your municipal water company for more information or to have your water tested. We have quick results testing kits available for the 10 major contaminants including pH, total alkalinity, total hardness, nitrate, nitrite, copper, free chlorine, total chlorine, iron, and lead. For a more in-depth list, see the ProPur PH-1000 lab results for a list of over 220 contaminants that are removed.

Where do I install a whole house system?

Near the water service entrance to your home/office, but downstream of the water meter. Usually next to the water heater is a good location. If you are unsure, please consult your plumber.

Can I fill up my pool with filtered water?

It is not recommended, especially if it is fully being refilled. That will use up the entire filter media and cost more money and headache. Make sure you have a hose spigot that is upstream of the water filter being installed.

Do I need an under sink drinking water filter also? Many systems do.

The ProPur PH-1000 does not need a separate under sink drinking water filter. Every tap in the house will have purified water. With APEC systems, you will probably want an under sink drinking water filter with a separate lead-free tap.

What is the difference between a regular softener and salt-free softener (a.k.a. conditioner)?

Regular salt softeners swap salt rocks for the hard minerals in your water. A salt-free conditioner changes the hard minerals in your water so they don’t stick to thinks. Environmentally, a salt-free conditioner is recommended and a few states require them. Please check if you have any regulations on this before purchasing.

Also, for most healthy people, the amount of added sodium in the softened water poses no health problems. However, for people who are a have high blood pressure and must live on a low-sodium diet or a sodium-restricted diet, the sodium in the softened water can be hazardous to people's health.

Especially when showering, many of the contaminants in the water are in the steam/mist and is inhaled during the shower and also usually spreads out throughout the house after the shower. Removing these contaminants before they get to the shower improves the air quality.

Is it beneficial to have minerals in drinking water?

Most of the time, you have good minerals like calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium and bad minerals like aluminum, barium, arsenic, lead, fluoride, radium, cadmium. It is hard to filter out some and not others. Reverse osmosis often takes out all minerals and should have remineralization added to the end of the process. ProPur’s unique design is made to leave the good minerals in and filter out the bad ones. See the lab reports for specifics.

What are the Elite Subscriber Benefits?

ANSWER HERE

Why do other filters on the market only need to be replaced every 5-10 years or 1,000,000 gallons?

APEC systems have a lifespan in those ranges, but they require drainage and electricity for backwashing. APEC and others like Aquasana’s Rhino do not filter out as much contaminants as a ProPur Whole House System, that is why they can last longer.
